PVG Scheme Membership

SportCheer Scotland is a registered organisation with Disclosure Scotland ensuring all of our staff, volunteers and coaches are subject to background checks. We are also an accredited body which allows us to countersign application and support the Scottish cheerleading community by assisting with PVG Scheme record creation and updates.

As of April 1st 2025, it is a legal requirement for anyone undertaking a regulated role or taking part in a regulated activity to be a PVG Scheme member. It is however every clubs responsibility to ensure that their staff/volunteers undertaking regulated roles/activities are registered members and therefore not barred from working with children/protected adults.  Those undertaking regulated roles/activities must update their PVG Scheme record for every regulated role they undertake. You can find out more about regulated roles and activities on Disclosure Scotland website. You can also use Disclosure Scotland's role checker to determine if it role is regulated.

Parents/guardians looking or a club for their children should always ask if clubs coaches are members of the PVG Scheme to give them piece of mind regarding their child's safety and welfare. SportCheer Scotland have also developed a Certificate of Compliance for clubs which meet our minimum operating criteria including PVG Scheme Membership. We are currently working to distribute this to our members.

We are currently building our "Find a Club" resource to help parents/guardians find clubs that meet our minimum operating standards.
